Information the 2026 Summit

The 2026 Beyond the Arc: Women’s National Basketball Negotiation (WNBN) Summit marked the first national edition of the competition, bringing together law students from schools across Canada to engage with the evolving legal landscape of women’s professional sport. Hosted through the Sport Equity and Justice Project at Lincoln Alexander School of Law, the competition created a space for students to develop practical negotiation skills while grappling with real-world issues shaping women’s sport.

Teams negotiated complex scenarios surrounding women’s professional basketball, including governance, athlete rights, league development, and commercial growth. Competitors were evaluated by a distinguished group of judges composed of leaders in law, sport, and sport business, whose expertise brought valuable insight to the negotiation process.

In addition to the competition rounds, the summit featured a panel discussion with accomplished women working across the sport industry. Panelists shared their experiences, career paths, and perspectives on advancing equity and opportunity in sport, offering students meaningful mentorship and inspiration while reinforcing the summit’s broader mission to spotlight and support women in sport.
